Their home was always a warm and welcoming place for their family and many dear friends that came to visit.Įspecially dear to Lillian was when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren stopped in to see her. Wilbur passed away March 11, 2020, and Lillian continued to live at home until she passed away June 8, 2022. Lillian cared much for others, and it showed in her gift for remembering special dates and happenings in their lives, for which she wanted to give all thanks and honor to God. In their 67 years of marriage, they set a good example of love and caring for each other and their children. Lillian and Wilbur together raised their seven sons and four daughters on the family farm. She remained steadfast in this faith until her death. Lillian was baptized and confirmed in the Old Apostolic Church. In 1969 they moved to a farm east of Hayti where they lived the remainder of their lives. The couple began farming on his parents’ farm near Hayti, SD before moving to a farm northwest of Hayti. Lillian was united in marriage to Wilbur Koistinen on October 25, 1952, in Brush Prairie, WA. She received a nursing degree after attending college in Portland, Minneapolis, and Denver. Lillian graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1946. She lived there until moving with her family to a dairy farm near Yacolt, WA, in 1943 where she helped with the milking. Lillian Ruth (Heidegger) Koistinen was born July 1, 1928, at Rice, WA to Charles Raymond and Ruth Elizabeth (Abernathy) Heidegger. Geise Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Visitation will be from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, June 13, 2022, at The Old Apostolic Lutheran Church near Lake Norden. Lillian Ruth Koistinen, 93, of Hayti, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at her home under hospice care, surrounded by her loving family.
